POINT TO POINT | MULTIPOINTS
Historically, the communication between several equipments is done by cable. However, the advantages of using “wireless” are multiple: radio range up to several kms, lower installation and maintenance costs,… The Point-to-Point mode (P2P) or multipoints allows several radio modems to exchange informations. These radio modems can be interfaced with any type of industrial equipment, especially in connection with Modbus (PLC or SCADA) or in mirror mode (Bridge).
The example on the right illustrates a Modbus configuration with a “Master” (on the left) interrogating the 3 “slave” modems (on the right). The “Master” modem sends Modem specific requests “slaves” in order to retrieve precise information about temperature, status inputs / digital outputs or analog industrial equipment to which these modems are connected.
