Post: Bouygues Construction monitors its worksites with ATIM

Bouygues Construction Matériel is specialized in the management of construction site equipment and provides expertise on very specific equipment in terms of their use or regulations: electrical cabinets, benches, etc.

The deployment of Objenious’ LoRaWAN® network nationwide in early 2017 has enabled Bouygues Construction Matériel to implement solutions to connect its equipment dedicated to construction sites with, in particular, the monitoring of 6000 electrical cabinets today.

A gain in productivity and better safety on construction sites!

The priority of the project is to monitor the circuit breakers and sensitive equipment that are necessary for the proper execution of the work.

These include cranes, concrete plants, agencies and offices, but also the cabinets that power the companions’ power tools.

If we take the example of cranes on construction sites, the objective is to guarantee a rapid intervention in case of a crane stop.

Indeed, the stopping of a crane leads to a work stoppage immobilizing up to 40 people on the site. Real-time detection of the origin of the breakdown is a determining factor in its resolution.

This is a real gas pedal and avoids interruption costs that can amount to several tens of thousands of euros.

Bouygues Construction Matériel has also set up solutions for monitoring energy consumption in its site cabinets in order to detect consumption anomalies and draw up comparative dashboards between sites.

An integrated temperature sensor helps to prevent the risk of fire.

Finally, the GPS location of electrical cabinets on construction sites allows for more efficient management of inventories and limits loss or theft.

A consortium of 3 specialist companies selected after 2 years of testing

Following a national call for tenders and more than two years of field testing, the solution from integrator GMI Databox was finally selected.

For this project, GMI Databox has formed a consortium of 3 partner companies, each specialized in their own field. The LoRawan connected objects are provided by ATIM.

ATIM has developed for this project, three types of custom-made connected objects integrating all the functions required for the active monitoring of construction sites (ACW-DIND80/160-G & ACW-TI-G).

The cloud business management application has been entrusted to the Grenoble-based editor Inneasoft, which has extensive know-how in alarm management and energy optimization.

Finally, GMI Databox provided the energy meters, the integration of all the elements into a coherent solution and the follow-up of all the field validation phases.

The GMI Databox connected cabinet solution

The objects developed by ATIM group together in a single compact box all the functions required to monitor three main types of electrical cabinets: alarm reading, energy metering, temperature measurement and finally a GPS beacon.

All this information is transmitted at regular intervals via the Objenious network (Bouygues Telecom’s dedicated IoT brand) to the AREE business application developed by the publisher Inneasoft.

AREE enables the management of inventories, alarms on electrical faults, high temperature and zone exit, as well as energy consumption.

The result of more than a year of development to take into account all the comments from the field, AREE allows site managers to be alerted to any critical event as soon as it occurs, such as fire or circuit breakers.

It also calculates all energy costs on an ongoing basis, highlighting high energy-consuming equipment as well as abnormally high consumption at night and on weekends.
